Environmental Issues Print E-mail

At Foseco, we take our responsibility as corporate citizens seriously. We are aware that we are members of the communities in which we work and live, and that our activities impact on our stakeholders, our neighbours, the wider community and the global environment. It is our mission to make that a positive impact.

Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)

Everybody who works for Foseco is responsible for getting ‘SHE’ right. Good ‘SHE’ performance and the safety, health and security of everyone who works for us and uses our products, are regarded as critical to the success of our business.

Environmental IssuesOur goals are simply stated:

  • NO accidents,
  • NO harm to people,
  • NO damage to the environment.

We continually drive the environmental and health impact of our operation to reduce waste, emissions and discharges, and use energy efficiently. We produce quality products that can be used safely by our customers.

To achieve these goals -

  • We consult, listen and respond openly to our customers, employees neighbours, public interest groups and those who work with us.
  • We work with others – our partners, suppliers, competitors and regulators – to raise the
    standards of our industry.
  • We openly report our performance - good and bad recognise those who contribute to improved
    ‘SHE’ performance.

Specifically on Environmental matters, we focus on two main issues:

Environmental Issues Environmental Quality and Workplace Safety.

In common with most heavy industries, foundries typically have programmes in place to reduce plant emissions and effluents, eliminate unnecessary scrap and conserve energy. We view it as a key part of our role as leading global foundry consumables suppliers to develop products that help reduce waste, minimise negative environmental impact and improve process efficiency through ‘right-first-time’ production.

In many countries, legislation and corporate risk management policies have placed controls or outright bans on materials that have traditionally been part of foundry consumables. To help our customers meet this challenge we have developed new solutions, such as Foseco riser sleeves, from which refractory fibres have been eliminated. Another example is our pro-active re-engineering of a more environmentally friendly binder - ECOLOTEC.

Emissions from Passenger Cars and other Vehicles.

Fuel use, and hence emissions, are a product of vehicle weight. Foseco has ongoing research programmes aimed at helping our customers to produce thinner, and therefore lighter, castings with in some cases enhanced mechanical properties of the original castings. Pioneering Foseco products such as SIVEX and SEDEX filters are practical examples of the ways in which this Foseco commitment is translated into practical business and environmental benefits.
